Balsan Park and Grands Moulins
In the centre, Balsan Park stands on the site of a famous textile factory where the uniforms of the French army were once woven. Transformed into a vast green space, it houses a media library, art school and generous lawns. Walking down to the Indre, the former Grands Moulins recall the town’s industrial past. Ideal for a cultural stroll together, followed by a coffee on a terrace of Place Gambetta.
Castle Raoul and old centre
Above the Indre, Castle Raoul houses the prefecture and keeps its medieval towers. Around it, the Cordeliers Convent, turned cultural centre, and Saint-Martial Church sketch a human-sized old centre. The pedestrian streets host cafés, bookshops and small bistros. Taking your time there in the evening is a good way to let the conversation grow without any set-up.
Berry, forest and lake
Around Châteauroux, Bommiers Forest spreads its oak and beech massif, perfect for walking. Further south, Lake Éguzon on the Creuse river offers swimming, canoeing and hikes in open nature. On Lyad, Châteauroux locals share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to hit the road one Sunday morning, aiming for the ponds and a picnic under tall trees.
